Abraham Kamarck founded Maendeleo Ventures in 2009 as a vehicle for change. Abe left military service just as the 2008 financial crisis began. In a tumultuous environment he saw emerging market funds that spent their last dimes on executive compensation and took over as a turn-around manager for a Bulgarian plastics factory that had been bled dry by a hedge-fund trader.
Maendeleo means “Progress” in Swahili, and that is what Maendeleo Ventures builds. Slow, determined and steady. Maendeleo Venture’s mission is to create change one project at a time.
The Maendeleo Ventures core value is “making,” as long as there are those of us out there who keep building and creating – “Makers” – then things will always get better. Even when the news is bleak and the skies are grey, in the long-run, the makers always prevail.
